A dinner was held at the Peninsula Club in Cornelius to honor Tim with Flock family and friends attending. One of the true pioneers of the sport, Tim Flock was actually inducted to the Hall of Fame in a private informal ceremony at his home in Charlotte last February. Flock, 73, died a month later of cancer.

The youngest of three brothers, Bob and Fonty, Tim was the most successful. He won 40 races and 37 pole positions in 13 years behind the wheel. His 2 1.2 winning percentage (40 victories in 189 starts) is still the best in NASCAR Winston Cup Series history, with only recently Jeff Gordon closing in on that record.

A more colorful driver on the track, Flock competed in eight races with his pet monkey, Jocko Flocko as a passenger in his race car.

In 1955, Flock won NASCAR’s only sports car race, driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.

He was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association’s (NMPA) Hall of Fame and the State of Georgia Hall of Fame in 1972, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Charlotte Motor Speedway Court of Legends in 1994.
